Know your options with PrEP

PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is medicine used by people without HIV to reduce their chance of acquiring HIV.

1 Choose the right optionPrEP may be available as oral medicine or a long-acting injection. A health worker can explain locally available choices.
2 Test before startingAn HIV test and clinical assessment are required before PrEP is started.
3 Use it as prescribedPrEP works best when taken on schedule. Attend follow-up visits for testing, refills, or injections.
4 Keep broader protectionPrEP prevents HIV, but it does not prevent other sexually transmitted infections or pregnancy.
